(American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Working Group)
  • An international working group for space environmental test under AIAA
  • Attends the working-level workshop on the assembly of launch environment test systems (vibration, sound, and shock), assembly of space environment test systems (thermal vacuum and space orbit environment), and test process technique

(International Space Exploration Coordination Group)
  • Consultative body to establish international cooperation for space exploration
  • Autonomous international cooperation organization to discuss technology review and possibility of cooperation
  • Leading output: Global Exploration Roadmap (GER)
  • KARI attends the meetings to present the current status and policy for Korea’s space exploration and the opinion on cooperation for space exploration
IADC
(Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee)
  • Participation in the establishment of joint response measures through the exchange of information about research on space debris in each country, joint research (Re-entry Campaign), and specification of international guidelines
  • Enactment and amendment of technical guidelines to mitigate and solve the problem of space environmental pollution caused by space development and space wastes and discussion of international cooperation by participating organizations
CCSDS
(Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems)
  • Committee to manage the development of standardization technology for the space system and ID management of satellites (One org. per country as a member)
  • KARI as POC to represent Korea and manages the ID of Korean satellites including KOMPSAT
ICG
(International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems)
  • The international body for global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) and regional reinforcement system with the objective of system performance and service enhancement through the mutual operation of GNSS
  • KIRA is participating as an observer

“Space and Major Disasters”
  • International cooperation program that provides satellite images free of charge for quick response to major disasters worldwide
  • KARI joined as the Korean representative in 2011 and provided the images collected by KOMPSAT-2, 3, 3A, and 5.
GEO
(Group on Earth Observation)
  • Implementation and utilization of integrated earth observation system based on the sharing of earth observation data and policy support for earth problem solving
  • Participates in analyzing agenda, etc.
CEOS
(Committee on Earth Observation Satellites)
  • Consultative body for the standardization and joint international utilization of earth observation satellite data with 6 WGs in each area
  • Participates in WGCV (WG on Cal/Val)
SFCG
(Space Frequency Coordination Group)
  • The consultative body for the direction of issues related to satellite frequency
  • Policy experts on frequency from each country to interchange and coordinate the frequency information of missions (including space exploration and unmanned vehicles)
SpaceOps Committee
  • The only international committee in operation for international technology interchange for space operation and ground system
  • Technology cooperation and interchange of overseas ground stations needed for the initial and normal operation of satellites
IOAG
(Inter-agency Operation Advisory Group)
  • Discussion on the ground system and RF standardization of satellite communications and design and operational compatibility of a space communication network through global integration

  • KARI is participating in promoting the outcome of internal R&D in aeronautics and strengthening the international network

  • An international academic organization in air-breathing engines, holds an international academic conference every other year
  • Attending the board business meeting
ICAS
(International Council of Aeronautical Sciences)
  • ICAS is an international, non-government, non-profit scientific organization with the mission to advance knowledge and facilitate collaboration in aeronautics
  • Participates in ICAS with the submission of research paper and presentation
GUTMA
(Global UTM Association)
  • The global UTM Association is a non-profit consortium of worldwide Unmanned Aircraft Systems Traffic Management (UTM) stakeholders. Its purpose is to foster the safe, secure and efficient integration of drones in national airspace systems
  • KARI joined as the Associate member in 2017
  • Participated in GUTMA Asia-Pacific Conference 2018

IAC
(International Astronautical Congress)
  • The largest academic conference in aerospace, held 69 conferences to date
  • KARI has participated since the 60th IAC held in Daejeon in 2009
APRSAF
(Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum)
  • To seek cooperation for space technology in the Asia-Pacific region
  • KARI has been participating in the working groups and general meetings
OECD Space Forum
  • Discussion of contribution in broad economic activities by researching the unique statistical indicators and economic indicators in space and generating international comparative data related to space
  • KARI attends the operating committee meetings and workshops to present the status in Korea
UN COPUOS
  • A UN committee to expand international cooperation in space, establish the international standard in space activities, and discuss the economic and social development using space technologies (member countries: 92, observers: 42 organizations)
  • Presents the current status and position on each agenda and participates in WG activities
Space Symposium
  • The symposium is hosted by the Space Foundation, non-profit organization representing the US space industry. The Space Foundation publishes Space Report each year to present the space economic statistics worldwide
  • Attends the Space Agency Leaders' panel meetings and seeks to establish network with worldwide space agencies and enterprises
UN-CSSTEAP
(Center for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia Pacific)
  • One of the space science and technology education centers established by the UN, located in India
  • Its objective is to strengthen space science and technological capabilities to promote social development in each member country
  • KARI attends the annual board meeting
PR & Media Cooperation Division
ISEB
(International Space Education Board)
  • An international organization established in 2005 to support the leading space development organizations worldwide in relaying the meaning and value of space development to the youth and helping them grow into future leaders by utilizing space. Current members include NASA, ESA, and JAXA, with KARI joining as the seventh member country in 2012
  • Major activities include the promotion of space education and culture for the youth, development, sharing, and dissemination of space education programs and contents, increase in international exchange and cooperation among youths and universities in member countries, attending ISEB meetings, bilateral working-level meetings in space education with space organizations in other countries, and participation in international space academic conferences and student programs
SGAC
(Space Generation Advisory Council)
  • The international council established at UNISPACE III to increase young people’s awareness and support the UN COPUOS by exchanging creative ideas - KARI has a permanent observer status in the UN COPUOS
  • Currently, more than 15,000 members including young space professionals and students from the UN, space agencies, space industries, and colleges in more than 150 countries have joined
  • The Council provides opinions on the direction of international space policies, executes projects related to international space policies and key agendas in member countries, and holds the international forum of young professionals and students on space policies
  • Young professionals and students from Korea are participating in the SGC (Space Generation Congress)
APRSAF SEWG
(Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum, Space Education Working Group)
  • The working group led by JAXA was established to support the space organizations in the Asia-Pacific region in spreading the aerospace culture and train future leaders in aerospace - KARI has been participating since 2011
  • The main programs include the promotion of space education and culture for the youth, development, sharing, and dissemination of space education programs and contents, increase in international exchange and cooperation among youths in member countries, attending working group meetings, cooperation and expansion of development of space educational contents, and cooperation in student exchange programs
