Projected launch date of Korean launch vehicle “Nuri” confirmed on Oct. 21
- Launch preparation date set between Oct. 22 and Oct. 28 considering the weather conditions, etc. -

□ The Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Lim Hye-sook, “MSIT”) hosted the “Nuri Launch Management Committee” on Sept. 29. As a result of comprehensively reviewing the technical preparation status and optimum launch conditions for the 1st launch of Nuri, the projected launch date was set to Oct. 21, 2021, and the launch preparation date, between Oct. 22 and Oct. 28.

□ As the committee in charge of major decision making related to the launch of Nuri, the “Launch Management Committee (chairperson: 1st vice minister)” has confirmed the launchable period this time. It is a committee consisting of key personnel of MSIT and Korea Aerospace Research Institute (Director Lee Sang-ryul, “KARI”).
ㅇ In this recent meeting, the Launch Management Committee confirmed the launchable period by closely reviewing the launch preparation status until future launch, including the final preparation work and launch conditions (weather, possibility of collision with space objects).
ㅇ The launch preparation date was set to Oct. 22 to 28 by considering the possibility of schedule change due to weather, etc.
‣ Change of launch date due to weather situations or technical elements often occurs overseas.
‣ UAE’s Mars probe “Amal” (Jul. 15, 2020 → Jul. 20, 2020) and Space X manned spacecraft “Resilience” (November 14, 2020 → November 15, 2020) delayed its launch due to weather conditions, and the launch of Russia’s “Soyuz” (Mar. 20, 2021 → Mar. 22, 2021) has been delayed due to a discovery requiring technological measures.
