Test Launch Vehicle Successfully Launched
Completion of the Flight Performance Verification of 75-Ton Engine

- Normal Operation of the Engine and Propulsion System in an Actual Flight Environment Confirmed -

■ A test launch vehicle was successfully launched from the Naro Space Center in Goheung, Jeonnam at 4:00 p.m. today.

■ The analysis result of the test launch vehicle, using the radar tracking system at the Naro Space Center and the remotely transmitted data from the launch vehicle, confirmed the normal operation of the 75-ton engine under the target flight situation.

ㅇ Since it was launched from the Naro Space Center in Goheung, the test launch vehicle burned for a total of 151 seconds after the ignition, meeting the engine combustion target of 140 seconds or longer, and rose to the altitude of 75km when the engine stopped.

ㅇ At 319 seconds after the launch, It reached the maximum altitude of 209km through an inertial flight after the termination of the engine combustion, safely falling along the parabolic flight trajectory to the international waters southeast of Jeju Island which was 429km away from the Naro Space Center.

■ Today’s successful launch of the test launch vehicle confirmed that the technology preparation for the development of Nuri space launch vehicle is in progress without any setback.

ㅇ The 75-ton engine, which is the most challenging core technology of the launch vehicle , has been verified by today’s launch.

ㅇ Four of the 75-ton engines verified today will be clustered into a 300-ton first stage engine. Once we complete the development and assembly of the 75-ton second stage engine and the 7-ton third stage engine, we will have the domestically developed space launch vehicle by 2021.

■ Our sincere congratulations and gratitude go to the KARI researchers and the many developers from various industries who have participated in the manufacturing of the launch vehicle for their hard work over so many years.
※ Participation by more than 1,000 people from 80 or so companies each year

ㅇ We ask you to continuously do your best until Nuri finally becomes a success, leading Korea’s space independence with its launch of Korean satellite with Korean launch vehicle.

■ Korea’s space development capability reached another level today.

ㅇ The government is committed to provide continuous support for space development that contributes to the enhancement of quality and safety of our citizens’ lives as well as the national economic growth, beyond the challenges of science and technology.
