2019 Cube Satellite Contest
- Receipt of application for the contest for a month from May 29 -

□ MSIT announced that it would hold the 2019 Cube Satellite Contest to foster outstanding college and graduate students in the space field and expand the base of the satellite industry and would receive the application to participate in the contest for a month beginning on May 29.

ㅇ This contest plans to select three college or graduate school teams and one industrial team and provide the support for the development of three 3U class (1U=10cm×10cm×10cm) cube satellites and one 6U class cube satellite. The four cube satellites should be developed by 2021 and will be launched through the Korean launch vehicle to be developed by October 2021.

□ The contest will be held in two phases. It will select 8 teams, or twice the final winners, through the first phase (end of August 2019), which screens the mission and conceptual design of the cube satellite, and then finally select four teams through the second phase (end of February 2020) that evaluates the preliminary design of the cube satellite. Each team selected in the first phase will receive 25 million won while each of the final four teams will receive the support of 450 million won (3U class) or 700 million won (6U class) which include the cost of preliminary design.

□ ”We expect the students and space ventures that will have the experience of satellite development through this Cube Satellite Contest will be able to grow into the core talent and enterprise to lead Korea’s space development in the future,” Choi Weon-ho, the Director of Big Public Research Policy said.
