`KARI Solution`, Catalogue of the Korean Satellite Technologies

The Ministry of Science, ICT & Future Planning (Minister: Choi Mun-gi) has announced that it will offer to the public KARI Solution*, the first catalogue developed by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (President: Seung-Jo Kim) containing the technologies of domestic satellites, as part of efforts to promote industrialization of space technology, stimulate the satellite industry in Korea and export of the products.

The KARI Solution provides the information of core technologies, major products, and service accumulated through the satellite projects driven by the Korean government since 1990. The catalogue introduces 54 satellite models (by weight, mission, and usage) and ground station equipment such as a satellite antenna which can be developed domestically as well as satellite assembly & test services requiring high technologies and cutting-edge facilities and various high-quality satellite image & information.

Publication of the KARI Solution signifies that satellite technologies developed on our own through the investment of the government can lead the creation of domestic satellite industry followed by advancing into the global satellite market sized of 177.3 billian US Dollars (2011). It is expected to lay the foundation for increasing Koreas share of global satellite market (currently 28.2 billion won or US$25 million, only 0.014% of the market (2011)).

* Details of the satellite export: US$ 0.5 million for ground equipment, US$ 4.2 million for satellite manufacturing, and US$ 20.3 million for satellite-using services (total of US$ 25 million)

KARI Solution will be actively utilized and offered online as well (http://ksp.kari.re.kr) in order to support the Korean satellite industry, which has showed stable growth to meet growing demand for satellite services. The catalogue is distributed to major countries through the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and to overseas buyers at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC, October 2013) and the Seoul International Aerospace & Defense Exhibition (ADEX, October 29, 2013 - November 3, 2013).
